The Best EDC Knives Under 200 Dollars [Top 3 List]…

1. Benchmade 940

940 vs bugout vs griptilian

The Benchmade 940 is an amazing knife design, and it comes in 3 different versions which all have the reverse tanto blade which is a very high performing (great cutting!) utility blade shape…

Benchmade 940 – The original Benchmade 940 comes with CPM S30V blade steel and a very comfortable green aluminum handle. First of all, CPM S30V is considered a premium blade steel, and it’s fantastic at resisting rust. It also holds an edge for a long time, and it’s relatively easy to sharpen, so it won’t be too much of a hassle when you eventually have to put a razor-sharp edge back on your knife.

Benchmade 940-1 – The Benchmade 940-1 comes with CPM S90V blade steel and a carbon fiber handle (again, very comfortable). CPM S90V is considered an ultra premium blade steel, and it also does a great job of resisting corrosion and rust. It’s better than CPM S30V because it will hold an edge for a longer period of time. It’s pretty much as good as it gets when you’re talking about blade steels.

Benchmade 940-2 – The Benchmade 940-2 comes with the same CPM S30V blade steel as the original 940, but its handle is made from G-10. Again, CPM S30V is a fantastic blade steel and will hold an edge for you for a long time, and I have always been fond of G-10 handles because they are extremely comfortable in your hand and they give you a great amount of purchase on the knife when you’re using it.

AXIS Lock – All versions of the Benchmade 940 incorporate the AXIS Lock locking mechanism. This is a very strong locking system, and it makes deploying the blade (even with one hand) very easy, fast, and smooth.

All in all, with any of the versions of the Benchmade 940, you’re getting great blade steel that will hold an edge for a very long time and a very ergonomic and comfortable handle. This is in addition to the AXIS Lock locking mechanism which is incredibly strong and allows you to open the blade easily and quickly.

2. Spyderco Paramilitary 2

spyderco paramilitary 2

The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is a fantastic EDC knife. It’s basically a slightly scaled-down version of the popular Spyderco Military model that was built incredibly tough because of it’s intended use by forward-deployed soldiers…

The Paramilitary 2 is also built to that incredibly tough standard, and because its a smaller version, it’s much easier to carry around in your pocket all day long.

Amazing Blade Steel – The Para 2 can be had with either CPM S30V or CPM S110V blade steel. Like I mentioned earlier, CPM S30V is a great blade steel because it resists rust well, and holds an edge for a long period of time. Well, CPM S110V is even better at holding an edge. It’s very similar to CPM S90V, and it takes an extremely long time and a ton of tough use to eventually wear down your razor-sharp edge.

Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Paramilitary 2 is made from textured G-10. Like I said earlier, I love G-10 handles because they are incredibly comfortable, and the texturing gives you a super strong grip on the knife when you’re using it.

Compression Lock – The Para 2 uses Spyderco’s patented Compression Lock locking mechanism. It’s a very strong system, and it also, allows you to flick open the blade very quickly, easily, and smoothly.

All in all, I love the blade steel options available with the Paramilitary 2, the handle is super comfortable, and the Compression Lock makes it so easy (and fun) to deploy the blade.

3. Spyderco Police

spyderco police

The Spyderco Police is a truly classic knife design. It was designed in the 1980’s to meet the needs of law enforcement officers, and it remains popular to this day for many reasons…

Awesome Blade Shape – The Spyderco Police has a version of a drop point blade. It has a swedge that makes the point very acute (great for piercing), and the hollow grind means you can get the edge extremely sharp. It also has that ‘POLICE’ marking across the blade which I think makes it look super cool.

Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Spyderco Police is made from Aluminum. It’s very thin, which makes it great for carrying around in your pocket all day long, and if feels very ergonomic and comfortable in your hand.

Great Blade Steel – The blade steel used on the Spyderco Police is VG-10. VG-10 is considered a high end blade steel. It first originated in Japan and was used in Japanese Chef’s knives, but Spyderco has incorporated it into a number of their knife designs. It resists rust and corrosion very well, and it maintains a fine edge pretty well too. On top of that, it’s pretty easy to sharpen when you eventually wear the edge down on your blade.

Strong and Simple Locking Mechanism – The Police uses the Back Lock locking mechanism. The Back Lock is a very popular locking system, and it can be found on a number of folding knives. Part of the reason it’s so popular is because it is simple and strong. The Police also features a Boye Dent on the locking bar, which is an added safety feature and helps prevent you from accidentally releasing your knife blade if you grip the knife too hard.

All in all, the Spyderco Police has an amazing blade design, a comfortable handle, very good blade steel, and a very strong locking mechanism. It truly is one of the must-have classic knife designs out there!
