Amazing Blade Steel – Both the Benchmade 940 and the 940-2 have CPM S30V steel. S30V is considered a premium blade steel and it does a great job at resisting corrosion and holding its edge. It’s also fairly easy to sharpen, so keeping a razor sharp edge on your blade isn’t a big hassle. In addition to that, the 940-1 actually uses CPM S90V blade steel. S90V is considered an ultra premium blade steel, and it’s pretty much as good as it gets. It also does a great job at resisting corrosion, but it holds an edge even better than S30V.
Comfortable Handle – The 940’s handle is very ergonomic and comfortable in your hand. It doesn’t matter if you get the aluminum handle (the 940), the G-10 handle (the 940-2), or the carbon fiber handle (the 940-1), the grip feels great and really locks in on your hand when you’re using the knife.
High Performance Blade Shape – The 940 has a reverse tanto blade shape that I find very attractive. But more important than that, it makes the knife an amazing cutter, and it’s perfect for a number of every day carry tasks.
Strong Locking Mechanism – The 940 uses Benchmade’s patented AXIS Lock locking mechanism. This is a very strong locking system, and it allows you to deploy the blade with one hand very smoothly. It’s a very sophisticated mechanism, and as I said earlier, it’s very strong.

2. The Spyderco Paramilitary 2…
The Paramilitary 2 is one of Spyderco’s most popular EDC designs. It’s actually a smaller (and easier to carry) version of the Military Model, and it’s an amazing knife for many reasons…
Amazing Blade Steel – Spyderco offers the Paramilitary 2 with either CPM S30V or CPM S110V blade steel. As I mentioned earlier with the Benchmade 940 CPM S30V is a premium blade steel and resists rust well and holds an edge very well. The other option, CPM S110V is an ultra premium blade steel, and it’s on par with the CPM S90V I mentioned before, which means it’s pretty much the best you can get when it comes to blade steel. Either way, you’re going to get a great edge on your knife that lasts for a very long time.
High Performance Blade Shape – The Paramilitary 2 has a drop point blade shape with a full flat grind. I love the way it looks (it’s very elegant), but again, I love the way it performs even more. The full flat grind makes it great at cutting, slicing, and dicing, and it also keeps your blade very strong as well.
Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Paramilitary 2 is made from G-10. I love G-10 as a knife handle material because it’s extremely strong, and it feels very comfortable in your hand. It also gives you a great amount of traction which allows you to get a really good purchase on the knife when you’re using it.
Strong Locking Mechanism – The Paramilitary 2 uses Spyderco’s patented Compression Lock locking Mechanism. I love the Compression Lock system because it’s very strong and very smooth. You can easily deploy the blade with one hand, and you get a great feeling of quality when you do it.

3. The Benchmade Bugout…
The Bugout is another one of Benchmade’s most popular designs. It was created from the ground up to be an amazing EDC knife, and Benchmade pretty much knocked it out of the park. It’s loaded with all the features an everyday utility knife needs to have.
Amazing Blade Steel – I’ve already talked about CPM S30V with the other 2 knife designs on this list. Well, the Bugout also uses S30V, and I think it’s a great choice. Again, S30V resists corrosion and rust very well, and it also maintains an edge for a long time too. On top of that, it’s not a pain in the neck to sharpen, so you can easily get that razor sharp edge back on your blade when you eventually need to sharpen your knife.
Lightweight and Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Bugout is made from a glass filled nylon called Grivory. I like this material especially for an EDC knife because it’s strong, comfortable, and incredibly lightweight. It also feels great in your hand and allows you to get a very solid grip on the knife when you’re using it.
High Performance Blade Shape – The Bugout also has a very attractive blade shape. In fact, I think it’s the best looking blade of the knives I’ve selected for this list. But again, that doesn’t matter if it doesn’t perform, and I’m happy to say that the classic-looking drop point on the Bugout cuts very effectively and performs well at pretty much every EDC task you can think out.
Strong Locking Mechanism – The Bugout uses the same AXIS Lock locking mechanism as the Benchmade 940. Again, this is a very strong locking system, and it allows you to deploy the blade smoothly and easily. It’s the type of locking mechanism you’d expect to see on a high quality EDC knife like the Bugout.
