We’re really living in exciting times…
And I say that because there are so many amazing knife manufacturers that are making high-quality knives at an affordable price…
It actually makes it really hard to narrow down a top 3 list of EDC knives under 50 dollars just because there are so many options out there…
But even though that’s the case, in this article I’m going to share with you the top 3 budget knives that I recommend…
1. The Spyderco Ladybug…
The Spyderco Ladybug (Or the Manbug!) is an amazing knife. It’s a small EDC knife, but it really is packed with a ton of valuable features…
Great Blade Steel – The Blade Steel on the Spyderco Ladybug is VG-10. VG-10 is considered a high end blade steel, and I’m a big fan of it. It first originated in Japan and was frequently used in Japanese Chef’s knives, but eventually, Spyderco saw its potential, and they incorporate it into many of their most popular designs. VG-10 does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion, and it also holds an edge for a long period of time too. It’s also not too difficult to sharpen which is important because when you eventually do need to resharpen your blade, it won’t be too big of a hassle for you.
High-Performance Blade Shape – The blade shape on the Spyderco Ladybug is a version of a drop point blade. It features a hollow grind which means it gets incredibly sharp, and that makes the Ladybug a very capable cutter and slicer.
Lightweight and Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Ladybug is made from fiberglass reinforced nylon or FRN. I like FRN as a handle material on an EDC knife because it’s incredibly lightweight. It also feels very comfortable in your hand and gives you a good amount of traction when you’re using the knife.
Simple and Strong Locking Mechanism – The Ladybug uses the Back Lock locking mechanism. The back lock is a locking system you’ll find on many folding knife designs. The reason why it’s so popular is because it’s very strong and very simple. It locks out the blade securely, and it allows the blade to deploy quickly and smoothly.
All in all, the Spyderco Ladybug offers you a great blade steel, a high performing blade shape, a comfortable and lightweight handle, and a simple and strong locking mechanism. And all of that for under 50 bucks!

2. The Civivi Elementum…
Civivi is fast becoming one of my favorite knife companies when it comes to super high quality affordable knives. And the Civivi Elementum is probably their most popular design for many reasons…
Great Blade Steel – The blade steel on the Civivi Elementum is D2. D2 is considered a high end blade steel, and it is very good at retaining its edge. It’s technically a tool steel, and even though it will hold an edge for a long period of time, it’s not too difficult to sharpen. In the end, it’s a great knife steel, and it’s also fairly affordable.
Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Civivi Elementum is made from G-10. G-10 is one of my favorite handle materials. It’s very strong, and it also feels extremely comfortable in your hand. It also gives you a good amount of traction, and the shape of the Elementum’s handle is very ergonomic.
High-Performance Blade Shape – The Elementum has a version of a drop point which is very classic-looking and (I think) very attractive. It gets razor-sharp and performs very well at pretty much any cutting task you can put it through.
Fast-Opening Flipper – The flipper on the Elementum allows you to open the blade very quickly and easily. And because it has stainless steel ball-bearings, the deployment of the blade is extremely fast and smooth.
All in all, the Civivi Elementum offers you a great blade steel, a very comfortable handle, a high performing drop point blade, and a fast, easy, and smooth flipper. Its one of the best knives under 50 bucks that you can currently get.

1. The CJRB Feldspar…
Like Civivi, CJRB is one of the best knife companies around that makes extremely high quality knives at an affordable price. Their most popular knife is called the Feldspar, and it’s an amazing knife for several reasons…
Great Knife Steel – Like the Civivi Elementum, the CJRB Feldspar uses D2 Steel. Like I mentioned before, D2 is considered a high end blade steel, and it holds its edge for a very long period of time. In addition to that, it’s affordable, and once you eventually wear down your edge, it’s not a huge hassle to resharpen your blade.
High-Performance Blade Shape – The CJRB Feldspar has a very cool blade shape. It is a version of a drop point, but it has a unique and very attractive look. It gets extremely sharp, and it cuts extremely well in a number of different cutting scenarios.
Comfortable Handle – The handle on the Feldspar is made from G-10. It has an extremely ergonomic shape to it, and the G-10 is very comfortable in your hand. It also gives you good traction when you’re using the knife, and it’s overall a great handle design.
Ball-Bearing Pivot – The Feldspar has a thumb stud on the blade which allows you to open the blade with one hand. But in addition to that, CJRB put ball bearings on the pivot which makes the deployment of the blade, fast, easy, and incredibly smooth.
All in all, the CJRB Feldspar offers you great knife steel, an awesome blade shape, a very ergonomic and comfortable handle, and a very fast and smooth ball bearing blade deployment. It’s also the most affordable knife on this list, and I think its a steal!
